SMM12, March 19: recently, according to Indonesian local media reports, Russia expressed support for Indonesia's right to ban the export of nickel ore (ore). Russia says it is difficult to comment because it is a bilateral issue, but Russia is prepared to support Indonesia's sovereignty to ban such exports, which could benefit the domestic economy.
Oleg Kopylov, a deputy director of Indonesia, said, "as far as we know, the Indonesian government has the right to implement a comprehensive policy on nickel mine exports to support investment and build industrial smelters for nickel mines, which is of course beneficial to Indonesia. However, the Oleg confirmed that both sides wanted to resolve the dispute in order to maintain trade relations. Last year, Indonesia's trade with the European Union reached 26.3 billion euros.
In addition to the nickel issue, Indonesia has handed over palm oil-related matters to WTO, complaining that EU environmental policies are not good for Indonesia's palm oil industry. One of the strong protests was the Minister for Maritime Policy and Investment Coordination, Luhut B.Pangjaitan. "there are some problems with Indonesian palm oil in the European Union, which plans to reduce imports of Indonesian palm oil, but we don't have such a plan," Oleg said. "
